TRACE Comes to Guatemala: Ballistic Recovery Technology to Strengthen Forensic Investigations

Guatemala takes an important step toward modernizing its ballistic analysis capabilities with the inauguration of the new Ballistic Footprint Laboratory of the General Directorate for the Control of Arms and Ammunition (DIGECAM), equipped with specialized technology for the recovery and analysis of ballistic evidence.

As part of this initiative, the TRACE ballistic recovery chamber has been incorporated—a solution designed to recover projectiles quickly, safely, and in a controlled manner, preserving the characteristics required for subsequent forensic analysis. This addition represents an advancement in the modernization of evidence recovery procedures and contributes to strengthening the technical capabilities of institutions responsible for arms control and public safety.

The integration of TRACE into DIGECAM's modernization project marks a new step in applying specialized technology to strengthen ballistic evidence recovery processes in Latin America. Having reliable samples is essential for conducting rigorous technical analyses, feeding identification systems, and supporting the work of institutions tasked with criminal investigation.
