Halton Police in Canada acquire TSN TRACE Ballistics

The Halton Regional Police Service in Ontario, Canada, acquired TSN’s TRACE Ballistics technology to strengthen ballistic evidence recovery and accelerate firearm-related investigations. The implementation was carried out by the HRPS Forensic Services Unit to improve speed, accuracy, and efficiency in evidence processing.

Ballistic technology for faster investigations

TRACE Ballistics enables the recovery of bullet and cartridge case samples from crime-related firearms, as well as confiscated or seized weapons. This supports comparisons against ballistic databases and improves forensic traceability in high-impact investigations.

First police deployment of this technology in Canada

According to the published article, HRPS is the first law enforcement service in Canada to implement this solution. This marks an important step in modernizing forensic investigation processes and strengthening institutional response to firearm-related crimes.

Faster turnaround and stronger case linkage

The service stated that the system allows ballistic samples to be obtained within hours after recovering a firearm at a crime scene, instead of the several days required under the previous process. It also enables the agency to leverage Rapid IBIS and RAISE initiatives from the Forensic Science Centre, which speed the examination of spent ammunition and help link shootings across Canada and the United States.

TSN advances solutions for forensic and public safety operations

With this international implementation, TSN strengthens its position in criminalistics, forensic ballistics, and public safety solutions by integrating specialized technology for evidence preservation, faster analysis, and stronger investigations.
